Hesta Friedrich-Nel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT). Currently the Assistant Dean Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, she has 35 years of teaching experience at the CUT. Hesta has a PhD in Health Professions Education from the University of the Free State and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from Rhodes University. She was a Fulbright Scholar in 2011, completed the Teaching Advancement at Universities (TAU) Fellowship in 2019 and is a member of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) community at the CUT. Her research interests are in medical imaging and radiation therapy, and formative postgraduate assessment. More recently she collaborates with Prof James Garraway on student empowerment during work-integrated learning. She is the section editor for the Health SA Gesondheid journal, is on the Radiography journal’s International Editorial Board and is also an International Advisory Board member for the same journal.
