Prof. Pius Adewale Owolawi is a dynamic academician and researcher with a B.Tech. (Hons) in Applied Physics/Electronics from the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Nigeria. He began his career as a Resident Network Engineer with the Central Bank of Nigeria. He then pursued postgraduate studies, earning a master’s and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2006 and 2010, respectively.
In 2016, Prof. Owolawi received an advanced diploma in Remote Engineering, Mechatronics, and Robotics from the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT), Australia. He further enhanced his expertise with a Postgraduate Program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in June 2020, and Data Science and Business Analytics in February 2021, both from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Prof. Owolawi continued his education with postgraduate diplomas in Cloud Computing and Digital Marketing from the Great Lakes Institute of Management, India (April 2022 - August 2022), and an Executive Education Program in Cybersecurity from the University of Texas at Austin (January 2024 - July 2024). He also holds a certificate in Management Development Programme (MDP) from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. Additionally, he is pursuing a Bachelor of Law (LLB) at the University of South Africa.
Prof. Owolawi has numerous industry certifications, including Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA), Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP), and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). He has also earned certifications in Radio Planning and Optimization for 2G to 4G from Tele-Resources Engineering Ltd in Australia, and Certified Fiber-Optic Technician (CFOA) and Fiber-Optic Systems Design (CFOS/D) from Triple Play Fiber Solution, South Africa.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), the South African Radio Amateur League (SARL), and the South African Amateur Radio Satellite Association (SA AMSAT).
