Prof Victor Virimai Mugobo is a Professor of Marketing at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Prior to joining UWC, he was a Professor and Head of the Department of Retail Business Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Prof Mugobo is holder of Doctoral Degree in Marketing with a special focus on strategic brand management. He also possesses Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, all in the field of Marketing with a special focus on retailing and strategic brand management. Prof Mugobo is the previous Wholesale and Retail Leadership Chair for the Western Cape Province, and he played an instrumental role in the foundation of this Chair in 2013. The Research Chair at CPUT was the first W&R SETA-funded Research Chair dedicated to the Wholesale and Retail industry, not only in South Africa but in Africa.
Prof Mugobo is also the former Chairperson of the W& R SETA’s Higher Education and Training Qualifications Working Group and the former Deputy Chairperson of the W&R SETA’s Occupational Qualifications Development Working Group (OQDWG). Prof Mugobo has been involved in training and development targeting the wholesale and retail industry for the past 15 years and his sterling leadership has resulted in the development and launch of qualifications such as the Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, and the Master of Retail Business Management. Prof Mugobo is a well published academic and has published more than 40 research papers, 10 technical papers and has presented at over 20 academic and business conferences across the world.
